Which middle ages empires would the grapes of wrath women most likely be seen in?
middle ages Europe
Granma Joad would be most
comfortable in the Middle Ages Europe because she is extremely religious.
Middle Ages Europe was extremely religiously centered, especially in Spain and
Portugal. Most of the Spaniards and Portuguese were part of the Christian church and tended to attempt to
convert other regions to Christianity. Granma Joad is extremely religious and
was constantly trying to get Jim Casey, who was previously a preacher, to say
prayers and pray with her. Granma Joad is also a strong-willed person so she
would hate the fact that most women during this time period were sheltered and
had little influence or power. If she lived during the Middle Ages Europe and
was a noble, she would not have any say in important issues dealing with the
land or who she married.
middle Ages east asia
Rose of Sharon would be most
comfortable in the East Asian Middle Ages, specifically China, because she had
very little education and believed that women should be mainly focused on
motherhood. During the middle ages in China, women had few rights and were
confined to their family. Their parents chose who they married, they could not
get a divorce, and they could not remarry if something happened to their
husband. Also during this time, elite and non-elite women worked in textile,
and non-elite women worked in the field. Rose of Sharon would not enjoy working
in fields or in textiles because she believes that women should stay home to
have and raise children, cook, and clean while men work to support and
represent their families. Something that she would agree with, is that the main
purpose for women was to create and raise children.
Middle ages Americas
Ma Joad would be most comfortable in the American Middle Ages, specifically
in the Mayan Empire, because she is the most influential person in her family
and the “leader” of the family, but she also takes care of everyone in the household.
In the Mayan Empire, elite women could play important religious and political roles
in society. They were very influential, and there were even two women rulers. The
lower class, however, played a role in family management, weaving, and gardening.
Ma Joad would enjoy having an influential role in society because she is incredibly
outspoken. She is also extremely family-oriented, so she would also fit into
the Mayans society where middle and lower class women manage the household and
raise the children. The Mayans, like many other civilizations in the American Middle Ages practiced human and animal sacrifice because they believed that their kings could commune with the spirit world through elaborate rituals involving human sacrifice. However, as a mother, Ma is an especially caring person and may not have been able to handle the human sacrifice, especially human sacrifice of children.
