The joad's journey
- Sallisaw, Oklahoma: "The accident overloaded Hudson creaked and grunted to the highway at Sallisaw and turned was, and the sun was blinding" (Steinbeck 123). The Joad's begin their journey.
- Paden, Oklahoma: "Castle to Paden twenty-five miles and the sun passed the zenith and started down" (Steinbeck 125). The Joad's are on their way to the gas station where their dog is run over by a car.
- Bethany, Oklahoma: "Oklahoma City to Bethany is fourteen miles" (Steinbeck 133). Grampa Joad dies and the Joad's meet the Wilsons.
- Santa Rosa, New Mexico: "Got to go back to the las' place for a part, Santa Rosa" (Steinbeck 166). The car breaks down.
- "Holbrook, Joseph City, Winslow" (Steinbeck 201).
- Needles, California: "And Tom, looking at the ragged peaks across the river and the Needles downstream" (Steinbeck 204). The Joad's set up camp by the Colorado River, Noah leaves the family to stay, and the Joad's separate from the Wilsons.
- Daggett, California: "It was near midnight when they neared the Daggett" (Steinbeck 225). The Joad's were stopped for an inspector.
- Barstow, California: "They drove away into the darkness and the little hills near Barstow were behind them" (Steinbeck 226).
- Tehachapi, California: "They drove through Tehachapi in the morning glow" (Steinbeck 227).
- Bakersfield, California: "Only a sky glare behind showed the direction of Bakersfield" (Steinbeck 285). Granma Joad's body is left in a coroner.
- Hooverville, California: "then a flaring light arose from the direction of the Hooverville" (Steinbeck 280). Casey is arrested, Connie leaves, and the Joad's can't find work.
- Weedpatch, California: "It was late when Tom drove along a country road looking for the Weedpatch camp" (Steinbeck 285).
